Two things, priced separately. Practising is free. The vault — sealing a real gift card away so it has to be earned — is $4.99 a month. Gift codes cost a little over the value on the card, because the distributor and the card networks both take a fee. We add nothing on top of theirs.

Practising is free

Every subject and every level, coins, streaks, freezes, badges, spelling lists from school, the daily prize box — for every child in your household, on every device. No trial, no card, no expiry. If you never want the vault, you never pay us anything.

The vault — $4.99 a month

What the subscription buys is the reward loop: sealing a real gift card into the vault so your child can see it, work towards it, and only open it once they have earned the coins.

Cancel any time. Practising carries on exactly as before.
A code already sealed can always be opened, even after you cancel. You bought it; it is yours. Cancelling stops you sealing new ones, nothing else.
Nothing is ever deleted — coins, streaks and progress stay put.

Gift codes: what you actually pay

A code costs more than the value printed on it, and the table below shows the real number rather than the flattering one. None of the difference is ours. Two other people take a cut before the code reaches you:

The distributor charges a flat fee of about a dollar per order, whatever the card is worth. They also sell some brands slightly under face value, and that discount comes off your price rather than into our pocket.
The card networks charge a percentage plus a flat fee on the payment itself, most of which goes to the bank that issued your card.

Because both fees are mostly flat, small cards are poor value and large ones are good value. A $10 card costs about $11.30 — roughly 13% over — while a $50 card costs about $51.30, or 2.6% over. If you are buying at all, buy the bigger card.

Or pay us nothing: buy a gift card wherever you already shop and paste the code into the vault. It works identically and costs no more than the shop charges.

Why the fee differs by brand

The distributor discounts some brands and not others. Roblox and PlayStation are around 3%, Barnes & Noble a little more, Xbox less — and Amazon, Nintendo and Steam give no discount at all, so those cost a little more. We do not pad the ones that give nothing to make the others look better.

Coins are not money

Coins are points. They cannot be bought, sold, transferred between children, or exchanged for cash. They are earned only by answering questions, and the only thing they do is open something a grown-up has already paid for and sealed.
